Anyone had any experience with the CS3 upgrade from PSE2? I've found a deal at adobe that's good through november that claims to allow folks to upgrade the PSE 2.0 cds that they got in their cameras (that's what I have) to CS3. But everywhere else, the same upgrade package quite clearly lists PSE 3.0 as the minimum PSE version.

Thougts?

If Adobe lets you upgrade from the very old PSE2, then go for it immediately!!! Is that an online only arrangement?

As near as I can tell, yes. At least like I said, all the places I see advertising the normal upgrade kit list PSE3 as minimum. The other night, at my wife's suggestion, I just said "what the heck" and ordered it. It should be here in a couple weeks, if it doesn't work, then you can bet I'll be on the phone with them about this, as their own webpage clearly says I'm in the target customer set.

    I'll update with results.

    sigh.
Well, it arrived today. A lot faster than they said it would.

But the product activation screen only gives elements 3.0 and 4.0 as options for what to upgrade from. So I've got to call adobe support tomorrow.

Nope, I got 4% into my son's college fund via Upromise instead. Looking at how it's applied I might have been able to apply that discount as well... though most upromise merchants have a clause about not being able to mix more than one offer.

ETA: And adobe's support phone number is currently offline for maintenance... just like the store has been since friday. So I'll have to call back tomorrow. :( Clearly adobe's customer support isn't up to SmugStandards. ;)

    AARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!

I am so furious with Adobe right now that I can't even speak coherently.

Needless to say, even though the upgrade order page doesn't say it anywhere, Elements 3.0 is the minimum, and officially there are no solutions available to me other than return it, minus shipping, minus a restock fee.

Good grief, I had no idea there were so many vendors participating.

Can you upgrade from PSE2 to something more current?

Or, Elements doesn't cost a whole lot, or you could get it with a new Wacom tablet, or....I'm sure there's another or....

Yeah, so here's what I'm trying now...

PSE2.0 came with 20D... $0 (effectively, I bought the camera, the software was a surprise)
PSE4.0 Upgrade from adobe, $57 (download copy, after club smug discount, after tax)
PS CS3 Upgrade from adobe, $326 (on dvd, with tax and shipping)

Now, the first couple folks I talked to at Adobe support said there was no upgrade inside the elements line. Another said there was, but it was only to 6.0, as they didn't sell 5 or older anymore. Finally, after finding the upgrade on their website I got a salesman to research it and say "yes, that should work; but you'll have to do it on the phone... you won't be able to authenticate the serial numbers online."

We'll see how well that works after I feed the baby, again.

I should point out the caveat in that plan is that the $299 cs3 upgrade is for elements users that got a free copy with their camera... they actually call it the "upsale" version, not "upgrade"... so it's more picky about serials.

EDIT: OK, that seems to have done it. So instead of a $300 upgrade, it was a $350 upgrade... roughtly. Still better than $650. And it did work without the call in to sales. I never even installed PSE4.

    EDIT2: adding linkages:

pse4 upgrade at adobe store (change tab mid screen to Upgrade): https://store1.adobe.com/cfusion/store/index.cfm?store=OLS-US&view=ols_prod&category=/Applications/PhotoshopElementsMac&distributionMethod=FULL&nr=0

pscs3 upgrade for folks that got it with a camera:
