Yet another one... help with my domain name!

Okay.... long story short: I wanted my email set to my new domain and tried to move it to a new host. that didn't work the way I wanted. I moved it back to Network Solutions and got my email (yay!), but now my site is screwed up.

While I do get routed to tippiepics.smugmug.com, it doens't resolve all my addresses (my images aren't showing up at the top of my site as you can see if you go there). And I want it to say www.tippiepics.com and not the other.

So.... I went to SM to the help and NetworkSolutions has changed their interface and either I'm doing something wrong or it takes longer to change than I expected. It's been about 24 hours - or longer, actually. Almost 48.

Anyway, you can see what I have below. Is this right? Do I just need to be patient? Or is there something else I'm missing.

Thanks!

That image clearly shows you are using web forwarding to map you domain to your smugmug site. You need to turn off forwarding and set up a CNAME record.

And where, pray tell, would I find the instructions to do that? In SM help? I'm not sure what I need to do!

    Thanks SO much!

Have no clue to what or where CNAME is, but does Network Solutions offer Domain Masking instead of just fowarding(??) ? That way even tho it goes to you.smugmug.com it will still show you.com

Godaddy use to offer it for free, not sure if they offer it anymore and free email for your domain.

Here's a link to the help page for setting up your domain to point to your smugmug account: http://www.smugmug.com/help/professional-accounts. There's info for Network Solutions there; hopefully there is enough to send you in the right direction even if they've changed their user interface.

Do not use forwarding or masking, please. If you are looking at those settings, you are looking at the wrong ones.

    The goal:
CNAME record from 'www' to 'www.smugmug.com'
    A-record for '@' (sometimes '*') to 63.81.134.23

Andi, if you are still having problems with your Domain, PM me, please?

Yeah, I went there and was able to get through to IP Address: A Records and then I got lost - I don't see CNAME anywhere... :(

    I think I have it!!!

They don't say CNAME records on the page i was looking at - just Host Aliases and it was in there...

One last question - I have both @ and * for options under A Records. Should they both point to 63.81.134.23?

    Thanks!

    Awesome!

Hopefully it'll be back to right in less than 24 hours!

Now my question is how did I do that the first time? I usually remember this kind of geeky stuff! Laughing.gif! headscratch.gifrolleyes1.gif

It usually is less than 24 hours, but you never know. It could be that long.

No worries! You can think of a CNAME as being a code name like 007 is for James Bond. Technically, it stands for Canonical name because someone wanted to sound fancy.

Geeez..... I feel like a noob now. I thought CNAME was something new for domains. rolleyes1.gif PWNT!
