Congratulations!!!! What is the cost for this if you don't mind. I was thinking of starting a thread to see what groups/organizations people belong to and why they chose them...of course I have not searched if a thread was already started first..

Best of luck and thanks
Professional membership is $323 per year. There are also two other types (one entry level, one international, which are about $100..$150 cheaper), but they are really not bringing you any of the goodies.

Legal help, insurance, numerous ways for extra exposure, discounts...
I really don't want to sound like their salesman.
Please check out www.ppa.com, the list goes on and on.
You need to decide for yourself if it's worth it for you.
For me it wasn't before, but now my business requirements changed, so I think the benefits outweight the expenses, for me that is.

Cool. I had visited the site before asking and was intimidated by all the links. Thought I might get the cliff's notes version from you.
Yeah, I know, it looks menacing... Just read the "why join" section, it's a relatively short read...
Thank you for the info...keep us posted on how it works out for you and whether or not it has assisted you. I don't think I am quite there yet but we shall see what next year brings.

Super Monday Event
one of the reasons I joined PPA a year ago was because in November they have events called Super Monday. A local wedding photographer was hosting an all day seminar all about being a wedding and portrait photographer. I got a lot of ideas and it was well worth the $99.00; Plus I got my insurance through PPA so my gear is covered and I feel better about having access to an attorney too if I have some questions about copyrights or liability
i joined the PPA earlier this year as well. so far i've gotten a few inquiries from people citing that's where they found me. one gig i can directly attribute to PPA membership is a small executive portrait gig for liberty mutual insurance. so it's paid for itself; although it's definitely not cheap. professional association memberships can sometimes be a real feather in one's cap.
Update: got Liability Insurance, etc.
PPA membership brings good news almost every other day.
Not only it helped me to get registered with two rather exquisite wedding book publishers (the one Shay acquainted us with), but it also helped me to get the liability insurance - IN ONE DAY!!! Everybody was telling me that it takes anywhere between one and two weeks, but here I am: applied last afternoon, got the quote back this morning and got the proof of insurance after lunch.
