No. You can link a picture from any site or even simply attach one.
Make sure you read all the bylaws, though...deal.gif

    Hi Kelly,
No, what Nik means is the contest rules. We made them as thorough as possible. There are plenty of links right in them, I suggest you look them over:

    LPS Contest Rules

And to reiterate, no, SmugMug is certainly not a requirement. Photos can be hosted anywhere you please, just make sure you follow our guidelines for linking/embedding/or attaching in the contest thread.

    good luck! :D

    Be Careful on non-smug links!
When I began judging for LPS #14 early last Monday morning EDT, a couple of entries came up Red X. I could see the link was to non-smug sites. I'm not sure how those links are cached on dgrin. Refreshing the page didn't work, but about an hour or so later the links worked.

afaik, caching has nothing to do with dgrin, that's all about the server hosting the photos, and of course the server you are surfing through.

on the other hand, on several occasions, I've had to remind SmugMug entrants to allow external links and NOT place their entries in private galleries.

All my entries ever were from a private gallery, I really don't see why is this important headscratch.gif "Private" only means you can't find it by browsing, AFAIK...ne_nau.gif

sorry, Nik, again, i'm not a SmugMug expert - don't have to be. I meant password protected. The point: lots of ways to skin a cat, or hide a cat. I just enforce the contest rules and continually point out - it's a dgrin thing, not a SmugMug thing.

Sir Hawkins: entry looks good, but why not link the exif as instructed here:
