MILES better than your other shot!!!clap.gifclap.gif

Next step is to seperate the dark hair from the b/g. Try playing around a second light or beauty dish from on the opposite side of the main light...

I'm glad your picking it up! It only gets easier from here!

    Snoot
I've never used a snoot, so my question really is from a state of ignorance. What's the purpose of snooting your flash if you're going to shoot through an umbrella?

experimenting really.... trying too see what works and what doesn't.......
the general idea was to have a bit light on just the face area and leave the background dark hence the snoot, tried it with and without the umbrella , but found the light too hard without.. so effectively a softer spotlight......

I'm sure there are other ways to do this but really enjoying the process of finding out I can do with my speedlight!!!

    Go here.

    Scroll down to:
More ways to control the size of your light: (about half way down)

There are uses for using a snoot/brolly combo. They are pretty obscure and more on the advanced side of lighting though. Very cool for experimenting though. thumb.gif

Huge umbrella, you must have an enormous studio!

Seriously, I like the effect...will need to try something similar.

Anyone use a grid on their snoot? Really makes it easy to direct the light.
    Cheers,

I use grids quite a bit. I find it eats more light than standard snoots in certain situations. For close in shots like this though. A grid is a great option!
