I keep getting ads and promotional material from the New York Institute of Photography. Obviously, I landed on their mailing list somehow. But I was curious to find out if any of you have any experience with them, or know of their methods, or know anyone who has taken their courses. Is it something anyone would recommend?

I am looking for some classes to take, and on the one hand, this seems appealing to me as it is self paced. I guess the idea is for the student to do the work from where ever they are, mail in the pictures, and have their staff critique the work on audio tape that is sent back to the student for review.

On the flip side, I also appreciate a more hands on learning environment with immediate access to the instructor.

In their promotional material, at least, they claim to have helped launch the careers of many professionals, but I don't know if that really means anything. A lot of people call themselves professionals without having a body of work that impesses me.

So, what do you think? Worth investigating, or leave it alone?

Thanks!
