Looking for Lunch

Hi Everyone,

So I was sitting out at the lake late today when the local trouble maker decided to go looking for lunch. But rather than swoop down on them at 200 mph like usual, he decided to go visit them close up and pick something out al-a-cart. It was funny to watch cause the ducks and coots didn't panic when he landed (like they do when he swoops down) but there were no volunteers either.

He stayed on the sand bar for quite a while walking back and forth looking each one of them over, then he took off to see if they looked the same from higher up. A big Harrier started to chase him like they did the other day so he just disappeared back to his hangout in the rocks.

Hope you like them..

#1 (shots 1 thru 3 are long long shots on a monopod - sorry for the shake)

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Excellent captures Chris. There is an artificial pond where I work, which has a bunch of mallards. Occaisionally a Cooper's Hawk will come and bath in the pond. The mallards don't seem to be bothered by him at all.

Hi Dave, Thanks for your comment. This guy is showing up more and more lately, especially on windy days. It is amazing to me the way the Harriers chase it all over. I can see the Falcon way across the lake sitting in a tree and the Harriers circle overhead just like a couple vultures.

Hi Glenn, When he landed none of the other birds seemed to care that he was there but when he is in the air they all know it and move to get out of the strike zone. Thanks for your comments.

    Nice Chris!thumb.gif

Have you tried a bit of noise reduction? In some of the shots the sky noise grabs me ahead of the bird.

I didn't think the noise was that bad. I guess I'm not that picky yet rolleyes1.gif

    Nice bunch, Chris. :D

Is it just my eyes or could all these shots use just a little bit more sharpening and contrast boost? Just a wee bit, mind you.
