renaming categories

I can only see a few categories in my control panel when I go to edit them. I can't change the name or delete them because they don't show up. Is there any way to fix this?

Also, is there any way to add a description to a category?

Sam,

You cannot edit the default categories. You can only edit the ones you have created. Also categories do not have a description.
