Schmoo, mANVIL and I met up with Justi just after sunrise and headed over to an old favorite location. This was a fantastic trip with wonderful people... even if it did mean getting up at 4:30am :rofl

1. Sunrise within the Giant

I love abandoned building shots! I think often they work much better in black and white, things pop out more and the rust and grit become rich textures. I'm jealous of this location, i could spend months here i think ... :))

    Great shots! I especially like 3 & 4.

Where do you guys go for all of these great abandoned building shots? Here in the Pacific Northwest I wouldn't know where to go (unless I was breaking into these buildings). Actually nothing seems to stay empty for very long here.

Abandoned buildings really do lend themselves to B&W, one of the reasons I try to capture the color there. Thanks for the feedback!

You need to come to the Rust Belt. More abandonments than you can shake a stick at... literally (I've tried). The problem with you guys up in the Pac NW is that your economy is too damn good. When someplace shuts down, there's someone waiting to buy at least the real estate to put up their new thing. The North East doesn't suffer from this problem. Lots of old Steel Towns that had no other means of making money around here.

Also, I don't necessarily advocate breaking into places... can get you into a lot of trouble. An alternative is to look up the owner of the property and contact them. Occasionally you can get permission to enter and photograph places. Just let them know what you are doing and you'd be surprised at the number of people that are okay with it.

There's a good chance I'll be out in that part of the world sometime in the coming year. Maybe you guys could do a rust-belt workshop for me. :D

Okay, now I'm jealous. Who do I have to bribe to come along next time? mwink.gif

I really like #1 and #4. That first shot really gives me a sense of the scale of this place, and the light... thumb.gif

I love the composition of #4 and, again, the sense of scale. Cripes, that is one hulking machine! I like the subtle color in this one. And that exposure is dead on. Very nice. clap.gif

    Thank you for sharing!

And do you mean #3 for the scale? That one is pretty good... Here is another one for the size of the place :

Ack, I did mean #3! Sorry about that. rolleyes1.gif (I kept scrolling to look and relook, apparently I made myself dizzy. Or just stupid.)

For the new one, I like it so very much for the color. clap.gif

And I'm in NoVa. I don't need a special workshop. Just a heads up. mwink.gif

But you all have gotten me investigating what there is around here to try for myself. Thank you for always keeping my curiosity piqued.
