She is slightly under-exposed in the first shot. In the second, exposure of her face is looking pretty good. A larger issue is the fact that fill-light hasn't been well balanced with the background ambient.

Couple more suggestions for you-- her eyes are centered in both images. Remember that crazy ol' rule of thirds?
Try composing so her eyes are in one of those intersecting thirds. Also, don't be afraid to get her to look off camera. And... try a slightly higher vantage point for your camera. Most people look best photographed from just a little higher than their eye level.
EDIT: you also have that big white splotch in the second photo on the upper right. That photo would probably work better as a portrait format, in my opinion.
