another reason why you SHOULD use proof delay

One of the reasons I like the proof delay is, that it is a great time-saver when it comes to cropping. Plus, you get to check the order to make sure that the customer didn't crop something too much, or 'not-crop' something they should have. I also keep it set at 7-days. That way, in case of computer problems, etc., I'll have time to check it before it goes to the lab. But there is another reason why you should use proof delay.

Back in July, there was a bug that prevented some 'order notification' emails from being sent. I found out when I clicked on my 'sales' roster, and found a few orders that I hadn't been notified about. In one of them, a boys feet were cut off in a photo. Since I wasn't using proof delay at the time, it was too late for me to do anything about it. I contacted her(before she received the prints), took full responsibilty, and told her I would bring her a corrected 8x10 to the next game, at no charge. Turned out to be a good PR move, since she paraded that shot all the round the diamonds. :D

Fast forward. I didn't get notified of 3 of the 8 orders I've gotten in the last 2 days. And yes, I informed the wonderful people at the Help Desk. :clap

And no, the notifications didn't go into my junk folder.

Email glitches happen. Wether its with SM, yahoo, hotmail, aol, etc. This isn't a SM complaint. All I'm trying to say, is that proof delay can be a good 'preventitve maintenance' tool.

Use it.

Set it to several days.

Check your sales roster between that time frame.

It might save you some trouble down the road.

Same thing just happened to me today. No notification, but caught it before the proof delay was up.

Upgrading to a pro account makes the most sense for me. This is a feature I really need, because I have images that are specifically for the web.

The thing that is preventing me from upgrading is that it let's customers only choose the print size that the image (my web image) can print at, although I would replace it with a fullsize for-print image later. 500px wide is not enough to print with, so they may not even have any choices. I'll wait for that fix before I upgrade, because, otherwise it would be pointless.

This is not anything we plan on doing, I'm sorry. Our setup is such that your photos must be at least at our minimums in order for you to make them for sale.

So...I guess my web images (stroke, logo, srgb, lesser quality) would just be fullsize and I would only let the a small size display. After uploading, when the site makes resized versions, do they get sharpened after?

I would replace them with for-print versions for orders (proof delay).

Can I do that? Uploading so many 3504px images would take a long time...

By Smash them, you mean save them with 7 quality? :D

    Damn...I didn't know 7 made my fullsize images 1mb!!

I guess I've got this figured out then. I need to register my buisiness and stuff first. Does site software that resizes pics, sharpen them too?
