Zoo sampler

All shot last week in Madrid's zoo. They just got a pair of giant pandas, who apparently hate photographers. One of them picked the ugliest spot in the enclosure, curled up in a ball and went to sleep there. The other climbed a tree and made sure that he was back-lit:

The zoo is not very large, but it has a good variety:

I really wish that I could afford to go see animals in a natural setting, but alas, I can either go to the zoo or not see them at all. While I usually try to frame shots so they're not obviously zoo pics, this last one is meant to convey my feelings about zoos.

Thanks for looking. C&C always welcome.

Cheers,

Where else can you find such a wide variety of exotic subjecs in one place?
You did a great job in masking the environment, even in the shot of the little goat-like creature where it's very nicely composed. Love the Panda in the tree shot iloveyou.gif

Hi Richard, Wonderful photos. I agree with Jeff on going to the Zoo but there isn't one very close to me. With winter coming on (if you can call it that here) I need to trek to the Phoenix Zoo to get some shots and yours just reminded me how wonderful a trip that can be. The San Diego Zoo, the last time I was there (many years ago) was also wonderful.

A very nice set of portraits, Richard, especially given how bad zoo lighting usually is. They're all great shots, but that boxfish just kind of jumps out at me.

Thanks, Joel. Yeah, the zoo here opens at 11AM, so the light is generally pretty harsh. The fish was the one good shot I got out of dozens of bad ones in the acquarium. I think I am following all the rules, but my keeper rate is abysmal.
