Hi folks, while I was in USA I picked up my Canon MPE-65 Macro and the Canon Twin Flash.
Ann's family have a rather large Lizard to which they feed live bugs to.
This bug was in fact only its white transparent Lavae form when it was fed to the Lizard, however it was overlooked, and morphed into a Beetle.
So I went fishing in the Lizard tank and fished it out so I could test my new gear on a real live bug.
Well of course the dang thing walked and walked and walked,
so I had to wait till it decided it wasn't going to walk anymore :rolleyes
So finally it stops walking long enough for me to take a couple of hand held shots.
I know these are not the best, but gawwwwwd this lens lets you get soooooo close the bugs actually scare you.
The whole time you have to look through the lens and hope the dang thing is still in the viewfinder and not on the camera. :huh
Roll on Canon 40D and live view :rofl
Well here's my first live shots, and you know the best thing about learning new gear....... you can only keep improving!
I love this new gear, it's MACRO capabilities are so close it's amazing what you can see.
This lens is no good for anything but MACRO.
I'm keen to test it on some stacked images LORD V. style :thumb
Plenty of room for improvement as I get to know this gear better.
Enjoy......... Skippy

Are those two shots of the same beetle? Or is the second one a shield bug?
Our lizard is a bearded dragon, and she's not that big! We feed her superworms, along with veggies. She doesn't always eat the worms - and actually really prefers the beetles they become.
Looking forward to seeing more shots with your new toy - almost as much as I am looking forward to your trip shots!!!

Excellent Skip. By the way I use on my 400 and 40D a Canon 60mm 2.8 Macro lens with extension tubes 13, 21 and 31mm. Would you say that this MPE-65 Macro lens is much better than what I am using. Cause I will get one if you and Brian can produce results like that. Let me know soon Skip.
Cheers
Bob
The MPE 65 is not as easy to use as I thought it would be.
Hence the reason your not seeing me post many images yet.
This lens is FULLY MANUAL so there is no AUTO Setting.
Your focus has to be Spot On as the depth of field is incredibly shallow.
My learning curve increased because I picked up my Canon 40D yesterday as well.
I'll get there... slowly but surely
... For Ann, yes the second image is the Shield Bug.
The first beetle is what those Super Worms turn into.
From a transparent white to a beer bottle bronze colour,
quite a transformation hu ?
