ruby crowned kinglet

in the Stokes book I have they are not really list to be in this area.

I didn't know what it was when I shot it.

the females don't have the ruby spot on their head.

    Nice captures Dave! thumb.gif You usually don't see the ruby crown unless they are agitated. They sound like the old electric typewriters. Thats a good way to ID them, as they look alot like Hutton's Vireos. Yours I'm pretty sure are Kinglets though!

    thanks Glenn....I didn't hear it making any noise. It was just fliting around in the trees. I honestly thought it was a finch with winter colors untill I was looking at the photos. Wish I had gotten the male. I'd like to see the red spot.

    Nice captures. I can't wait for them to make back down to Texas in large numbers. It's still a bit early, but some early migrants are making it back.
