I have finally enough money to get a 30D body only or 350D with lens from Pakistan :wink.
But i asked a friend here he told me not to get 350D/400D. Personaly i loved large size of 30D and 100,000 shutter life

then what about lens? 17-70 sigma 17-40L looks good is 17-40L f4 really better then sigma's picture quality and worth extra $$$ ? will it make decent head shots ?

Btw i am not in rush and nothing to shoot for next 4 or 5 months and can wait for next 12 months too ... :D

I think i will be visiting this type of place more frequent if i got a dslr

Any thoughts ?

You said it yourself... You like the larger size camera body, and that in its self is almost enough, in my opinion, to warrent getting the 30D. I love my XTi but at times the samller size is uncomfortable to me, espeically with my 100-400mm on the body. The 30D also has some extras over the XTi, like being able to adjust the EC in manual mode. You can do this on the Xti but it is annoying as the camera takes three images, one under, one normal, and then one over the exposure you shoot. If I could buy my camera agian, the 30D is one I would get.

I forgot about the lens!!! :D I own the sigma and it works nicely espeically at f4. I do not own the 17-40L, so I will not comment on its performance, other than that the shots I have seen from it are really nice.

Here is an example of what I took with the 17-70mm:

I'd go for the 30D if not just for the build. AF is better than the Xt. The Xti is supposed to be the same.

    Spot metering.

A proper 2 control wheel setup.

Arguably better high ISO than either the Xt or Xti.

Much faster FPS and larger buffer- if you might need that.

Top panel LCD- I use it a lot.

    Better VF

    Etc....

The 17-40 f/4 is an excellent lens, one of my best purchases to date, and is a wonderful all-rounder on a crop body. it practically lives on my camera. but it makes for terrible head shots - portraits that is. You've really got to get up in someone's face, and with that aperture, you don't get much in the way of background blurring. But, barring that, I can't say bad about the lens.

    +1

I just upgraded from the XTi to the 40D. My main gripe after shooting with the digital Rebels (had the XT, still have the XTi) for the last 2 years is high noise at and above 400 ISO. Also, the body is just too small for larger lenses.
