John, I just want to send a huge "Thank You!" to you for your excellent post to this thread in the Support Forum.
That was the most lucid and complete explanation I've ever read on how color-management really works. What had been missing for me in every previous explanation is that when non-color-managed applications read files, they send the RGB values directly to the monitor, not passing them through the monitor profile in use on that system. I just assumed that they did that, even though I knew they ignored a profile tagged to the image.
This finally explains it all to me. Thank you very much.
