Thats a good question... , I usually carry 3 camera bodies, one with the 12-24 f/4 Nikon lens, one with a 28-70 f/2.8 Nikon lens and one with the 80-200 f/2.8 Nikon lens, I use the SB-800 flash on each camera.
The up close pics of Hillary Duff, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Jr. I used fill flash with the 12-24 Nikon lens.
Some of the others like Kurt Rusell, Whitney Houston, LL Cool J, David Spade, Rob Schneider were fill flash with a 28-70 Nikon lens.
Sunday at the race the sun was so bright I was trying to balance the light and keep from having such harsh shadows on faces. The up close pic of Tony Stewart was no flash with the 80-200.
All of the drivers by their cars were shot with the 12-24 and fill flash.
The cars sitting still on pit road were shot with the 12-24 with fill flash.
The cars on the track at speed were all shot with the 80-200, there were a couple I shot with a 300 f/2.8 and a couple with a 400 f/2.8 but the long glass was overkill and too heavy to make it worth the trouble so I ditched them quick and stuck with the 80-200 so 99% of all the racing images are with the 80-200.
The champagne spraying and Victory Lane shots were mostly with the 80-200 and fill flash, I learned years ago when I got soaked along with my camera, lens and flash to get as far back as possible when they start breaking out the champagne bottles.
I hope this all makes sense....
