Hello Anyone,

If your using smugmug to sell your photos and the name you use EX. Blueskyphotography---do you have to licence that name with the state as a business? I would think not, but doesn't that protect you from someone else using that name? I have not a clue on this stuff. Maybe someone out there can answer this for me.

Heck, is was Sunday today and the mind was doing a lot of thinkin' :D

typically, having blueskyphoto.com does not preclude you any special legal status protecting the name blueskyphoto for exclusive usage rights. only registering the business name in the state(s) you do business in affords you any protection. i'm sure there's probably some states out there where this does not apply.

    At least in Colorado...
Here in Colorado you can use your name as a business name and not register with the state (depending on your type of business).

Tiffany Nicole Photography doesn't need to be registered for tax purposes as it is me using my name for my business.

My marketing company, DeNic, had to be registered for tax purposes.

Check your states laws to be sure
