Cleaning a 16 mm Nikkor fisheye

Just bought a 16 mm fisheye secondhand. The lens is in mint condition, apart from some white fluff between the lens outer margin and the sunshade (which cannot be removed). Any idea how to remove this fluff?

The outer glass element is deeply blue (coating?). There is one spot on it which I cannot remove with a microfibre clot. What can I use without damaging this blue coating?

Who has more info on this lens? There was no manual or such like when I got it.

I also have the 16/2.8 FE I use on a D200 and don't quite understand what you mean by "white fluff". Can you supply a shot of this "fluff"?

re: the "spot" on the front element(?), I would just try using your breath and the microfiber cloth. And can you tell us more about what type of "spot" you think this is? Coating removal? Behind the front element?

Be aware that the MC (blue coating) can be removed (as mine has, but I got it this way) so please just watch how much pressure you use. And you may also take some various shots (indoors, outdoors from f/2.8 up to f/11) and see if the spot shows in the images. If it doesn't show I wouldn't worry to much about it. The only thing that this may cause is a bit of flaring when the sun hits it just right.

You really should not need a manual. But this lens gets a good rating HERE. And my shots with this lens are HERE.

We have lots of cleaning experience :) We usually use micro fiber cloth, a lens pen and some cleaning solution. I am also not sure what you mean by while fluff you can't reach. Please post a pic.

    ... and some cleaning solution.

Like what? The stuff you get from an opticians office for glasses. If so, I take it that doesn't remove the coatings on my L glass. ne_nau.gif
