They are both great, but I really like the first one. I wonder if there is a better crop as he is RIGHT in the center, but the surroundings are very nice and I am not sure it hurts it any.
I hope you dont mind ( If you do I will take them off) but I thought I would mess around with the crop.
All good crops Brian, I have plenty of close up shots of Coyotes, I kind of like seeing one blend in with it's natural enviroment. That's why I left it pretty much as it was when I took it.
Real fine captures of a difficult subject. That second shot is sweet.

I like Greaper's first crop. I agree with you, Ed, about showing the surroundings, but the out of focus branch in the lower left corner does distract in this case. I figured that you would have framed a little more to the left if it had not been for that branch.
I really love the one in the snow. It is a great photo. I am attaching it (hope you don't mind) after I played around with the shot in Photoshop CS. As stated, it is a great shot and I am not suggesting an improvement. I just wanted to see what CS's new Shadow/Highlight tool would do for the snow so the exercise was more to let me practice with the new tool.

Dang it these are inspiring. I think I am going out on a coyote hunt in the morning armed with my camera and a necklace of garlic sausage for bait to get them close:D
Got here late on these Ed, but they are EXCELLENT!!!
I really like the 2nd one, but I can't keep from going back and looking at the first one over and over again. Lots of distractions in that shot, but those eyes are riveting
Plus, it's exactly what you see sometimes when you aren't aware of the coyote's presence. You look around and catch his eyes. Only to see that you are being watched/stalked :yikes
