Please correct me if these are not herons. They are Aosagi in Japan which my dictionary says are gray herons. Anyway, a few shots. Any comments or advice welcome.

1. Cropped but one of the few decent food capture hots I have. (sorry, bad placement of the watermark!)

Number 4 is the best of the lot. And it is a heron, very similar to the Great Blue Heron of the US.

Thanks Stephen. That shot is my favourite except for the branch between me and the heron which almost looks like a shadow...

yep, I blew a lot of the shots actually. First time I have really tried using the exposure compensation, so just getting used to it. On the egrets I took (not posted), The overall pic went really dark when I went down low enough to not blow the highlights. Is there a way to avoid this? Or do I just accept it with such a white bird?

Hi Mike, Nice shots, I like #4, especially for the reflection in the pond.

Thanks everyone. Seems #4 is the favourite.

Jeff, I most often shoot late afternoon. Just more practice I guess.
