Safari 3 now allows you to resize text entry boxes. This works when posting on Dgrin, in your Customize page on SmugMug, just about anywhere that allows you to enter text, just drag the resize handle in the lower right of the box, like this:
Beyond what David said, think about it. To use Apple-Shift-4 you have to move the cursor. What happens to the block of preview text you want to show, when you move the cursor?

The small text windows have always been a pain to use.

I absolutely hate the huge blocks of preview text that appear on forums like this one, when your cursor touches a thread title.
I can't seem to turn it off. Firefox doesn't do this. And yes, Patch, I have JavaScript and Java enabled.

I love that. But, a switch to turn it off makes a lot of sense. Send them feedback!

I have always composed large posts in a text editor and then pasted them into the box, but I have also always hated doing it that way.
The enlargeable text box thingy is more better!!

Me too! I thought I was the only one, it's so messy, I just want to shake it off, in fact I go to great length trying to avoid it.

I can't argue, but then I do have a phobia for sticky labels in real life, not sure I should admit to that but it's nice to be different.
If you want to get rid of me, which isn't uncommon, just stick a label on your clothes or skin and I'll either vomit or run away.
Weirdo, moi, oui!

Maybe I won't have to?

Actually, I tried it, and it removes the URL as advertised, but not the preview of the linked post.
I'm running the final Safari 3 and they're there, for sure. If ever I find a foolproof way of disabling, I'll be sure to let you know.

Every couple of months, I forget why I don't use Safari, fire it up... and am quickly reminded.

hmm, Firefox does it for (to) me. Did you find someplace to turn ToolTips off, or did I turn 'em on by accidens somewhere along the way, I wonder.
my words, my "pro"pictures, my "fun" pictures, my videos.
By contrast, in Safari I get a comparatively large box of text.
I tried to take screen shots, but for some reason Apple-Shift-3 doesn't show the boxes.

They don't actually expect people to use it do they? It blows chunks (the Windows version) compared to Firefox and it's lousy compared to IE as well.
On my iPhone, now that's a different story :ivar
Thats because its Apple-Shift-4.
Basking in the shadows of yesterday's triumphs'.
Apple-Shift-4 will grab selections. Apple-Shift-3 is the entire screen.

Interesting. I find FF frustratingly slow and the RSS is weak compared to Safari. On a Mac, of course. Never tried Safari on Windows.
Dgrin FAQ | Me | Workshops
If anything, I find Safari slower than FF on my Macbook (although the difference isn't pronounced.) I can unequivocally say it's not faster.

Is too!!!!
I'm also talking about the startup time of the app itself. FF is slow.
Dgrin FAQ | Me | Workshops
Yeah, FF takes for freakin' ever to hitch up its pants and get out the door.
