Assignment #57: Duotone Portrait

Let's make it simple again: I't gotta be a portrait, and it's gotta be a duotone.
There is a catch, though: no black-and-white and no "sepia" are allowed. :deal
Each entry should consist of two images: one original color one (SOOC jpeg or very basic conversion from RAW) and one post-processed into a duotone.
As always, images should be fresh.
Let's get some nice duotone portrait!

So, Nik, explain how fresh is fresh? I have a shot from Wednesday that I haven't converted yet, that I might like to try this with.

You can try to use your Wednesday results, but please be aware there will be no prize for that... Wait a sec... We don't have prizes anyway
So, why don't you start with what you have already, and then maybe shoot more and post the really fresh one?
Two hours ago. May be not that much !
Man.... :bash
Mine more redish ! I knew it and was aware of your intention !
May be it's the monitor
This is not black and white
Thank you!
Now, apart from shifting the Hue slider away from it's default brownish position, how would you justify this particular hue for this particular shot?
Please rememeber: we don't do this just to comply with my (or somebody else's :-) silly rules. We want to improve our skills and vision while staying withing certain parameters.
So, with that in mind: why pinkinsh/purple?
It's not very nice, is it ?
Kind of strange ...
But I still would love to hear *your* reasoning - why this tint...
No sepia or near, no black and white or near.
Why not any other ?

A duotone is a black and white image to which another color is added. In PS you first convert an image to grayscale , then to duotone (Mode>Duotone), where you can select the 2nd color and the blend.

Hey David, tell me if I'm wrong:
This is how I did it:
Mode-greyscale
mode-duotone
load: /presets/duotones/duotones/etc. and chose one. i'll post a B&W Image for comparison.
Is that how you get duotone?
Haha thanks a ton. I had to chase her around for a while before she settled down and I could get a few shots. then she got bored and spread herself on the floor for the pic.
The eyes are full color, no?

Not sure If it'll be acceptable to Nik But I can just take off the eyes then. Would it qualify without the color in the eyes?
P.S. sorry.........used the duotone that Izzy used but converted to grayscale first.....
Go Back to Image->modes->RGB
That should do it
The more I get to roam around the forums the more fun topics I find! Here is my first try at both the assignments and duotone......
Black and Pantone 3945 C...hope I did OK also...really looking forward to that big prize!! !!
Click on photos for exif data...oops...my camera is still on Beijing time! Gotta run and fix that....
Thanks,
Maureen
Thank you for the entry!
It's a duotone alright, but I'm having a really hard time calling this image "a portrait"...
Yes, about 2:45am it dawned on me that I got caught up in learning the process and forgot it should be a portrait duh, .....back to the drawing board. Sounds like you think the process is proper....now I just have to find a face!
Thanks Nik!

(My real name is John but Jack'll do)
I take it as a "portrait", but it's too close to sepia to accept it as a valid entry.
