Breaking a flash

Hi

I recently read that someone taking a series of 20 shots with their canon 580ex burnt it out.

I've just bought a new 430ex and cant find any warnings about this in the manual. Is it possible? Isnt there some protection circuit built in to stop you doing this?

Thanks

I don't know about Canon flashes - but I own the Olympus FL-36 and my manual has a warning about taking more than about 20 shots in a 1 minute period (I believe - been a while since I read it). Anyway - the idea is that flash elements can get very hot, and if you aren't careful you can damage them by popping the flash a large number of times in a very short period.
That being said - I have shot the FL-36 and also a Sunpak 555 multiple times at high power without any problems. But, I suppose it would be possible to fry a flash.

Yes you are right - thanks!
I've just re-read the manual - this time after my morning coffee! :D - and found a footnote on the contents page.

    For the 430ex
    - dont fire more than 20 continuous flashes
    - after 20 flashes leave to rest for at least 10 minutes.

    Cheers!
