... walk.
I got the lens on Friday, took it for a teeny urban nature walk on Sunday.
Gad, I like the thing! Super duper sharp, great color, feels perfectly weighted on the 5D. The bokeh's a treat, but as you'll see, I really didn't end up using it much. I think I'm in luv.
I live near the Chattahoochee River, which has a small backwater set aside for kayakers. There's a bridge over it. Here are a couple of shots of reflections in the water, taken close to golden light time. I gave the RAW files a serious color tone and saturation tweak in Canon's Digital Photo Pro, and I liked the results. Virtually no Photoshop, this is pretty much all DPP.
I've been reading all about Muench stars, and wanted to try my own. Now, the technique for a star, I gather, is a small aperature. So like the guy who brings a knife to the gunfight, I have in my hands one of the largest aperture Canon lenses on the market. :lol3 f16 is the lens' minimum aperture, it seemed to work OK.
I want to thank B&H for their sale codes which made this lens slightly less unaffordable. I shouldn't have bought it. But now I'm very glad that I did.

The first two photos don't really show the sharpness of the lens .
Nice photos.

Nice work with the new lens, good luck with it!
Fabulous lens, I'm amazed at how much I like it. I took some wide shots of a building on my way to the 'Hooch, and was stunned at how sharp they were. And I have to tell ya, I'm not one of those freaks who worries about how sharp their lens is. It's just that this took me by surprise.

I've only looked at DPP for five minutes about two years ago, so it's nice to see good results coming out of it! The colors really do have pop.
I have to disagree with George because I think some of the ripples in those reflection shots are quite sharp. Ow, my eye.
And you get an extra cookie for the extra-difficult Muench star!

Wide open at f1.2 I can see some vignetting, not severe but definitely present.
The shots of water I posted here were taken at f2.0. I haven't tested that setting on a plain subject, but I'm thinking the vignetting would be gone by then. I could be wrong, I'll have to check.

But that is so slight that it can be easily removed or cropped out. Probably easily handled at 1.2, too.
Thanks for that info.

The depth of field on close subjects must be razor thin with that monster, got any examples to show?

Congratulations on your new lens
One of the very best applications for these fast lenses is airviews, especially at sunset. So now that you have EXTRA money hire a pilot and shoot away

The reflections are gorgeous, they look like impressionist paintings. Glad that lens is safe
