A day as a critter at Cranberry Flats
I spent a few hours Sunday stomping around on the shore of the Saskatchewan River just south of Saskatoon. What began as an attempt at landscape shots quickly became a study in animal behaviour. The colours are awfully muted - the browns of winter now dominated the amber hues of fall.
I followed a human trail down toward the river.
That island was once used as a training base for Canadian sailors. Have to teach those flatlanders how to swim, I guess. The island, from ground level.
A beaver was just getting started damming this tiny inlet.
The inlet from above
Following the deer tracks thru the bush led me to some dense brush, with a few berries left in it. I have to think that this is what the deer will see sometime this winter, honing in on what little sustinence is available.
I don't know what this shrub is, but I like it
eventually I came across some deer. This whitetail paused briefly.
I then found a small pond with all the tall grass stamped down. This is apparently a deer bedroom, so to speak.
At the top of the hill is an old well. I love how this shot came out.
Hope you enjoyed the shots. C&C welcomed. Gallery at http://grainbelt.smugmug.com/gallery/3787828

I find my pics rarely stand on their own, so a little explanation tends to help.
