200-400VR with 1.4 TC on D2X monopod. 550mm, Light? All I could get at f5.6. If I had it to do over again, I'd try to have backed off some and got more of his legs, but it was really hard to get him in the woods.

That does it! I was going to work around the yard today but now I'm off to the woods.

Movement might have spooked him. "A bird in the hand..." you know.

really nice capture for your self as is....if it would withstand cropping to a head shot then possibley would be a great seller.....too bad you couldn't have just zoomed out a tad and got thse hooves...man that would have been killer then.

    I like this one...so...here is what I'd do...rolleyes1.gif

Crop out the area to the left of the frame with the left border being right down the center of the tree. I think it would make the shot a lot cozier.:D

It's a tad oversaturated on the colors.

Nice capture of a healthy buck! thumb.gif

    thanks for the advice.

well, he was my first buck, as such, I am thrilled anyway I slice it or dice it. Also, I went in for a fawn, and came out with a Buck, hard to be a looser there, you know? :-)

the image has been well received by a few folks already. I just wanted to share with people here.

Actually this deer went up in the same area of woods. I can't recall if it was first or after, anyway, it's where I found the buck.

I did catch these two a week or so later, just tough to get in the woods!

Hi Lex, Nice rack. They don't hang around long to pose do they. The additional pics you posted, the bucks look like a mirror shot..clap.gif

Thanks Prescott, I noticed the same thing about the mirrored bucks. That's what really makes that shot interesting. I got a nice image of one of these eating fall follage, (yellow leaf), sort of interesting. :-)

Hey, I like that shot. Good going! Wildlife doesn't always hand around long enough to let you compose the shot. Ric had some good advice though.

These guys don't get paid to pose for us. Good catch and nicely handled.

    Thanks guys!

Other than his imposing size (this was one stout buck!) I think the lighting on the antlers is what I liked the most about my shot. This will be difficult to dupicate in another shot. Oh, also since I didn't make it clear, I only had long enough for 2 snaps in this position. One with his eyes sort of closed after he blinked I guess, and this one. Then he moved on, so that's how long I had for specific field of view setup, lol.

Harv, well, if it was allowed, I could pay with acorns and corn. clap.gif But can't feed in a national park. Getting close to a Buck in the wild outside the park, as we all know is VERY difficult. Plus, if it's public lands, we have to worry about hunters.
