going to pick up a TTL flash cord and flash bracket tomorow at San Jose Camera. So my rig will be D40X, sigma 105mm with the SB400 mounted on the side w/diffuser.

Question: now what tube vs close up lens? Does the tube just decrease the min focusing distance like the close up lens?
D700, D600
14-24 24-70 70-200mm (vr2)
85 and 50 1.4
45 PC and sb910 x2

Congrats on the rig- nearly there :)
I'm biased towards ext tubes simply because they give no IQ loss and allow greater magnification (well in most cases anyway). A full set of Kenko ext tubes will allow you to get to 2:1 with that lens.
