So, here's a funny story to go along with my news (it will make sense in the end).
I have been shooting for the school paper for the better part of 9 months now. A few weeks ago, our current Campus editor was editor over the summer, and she loves my photos, and told me that she wished the sections could claim a photographer as their own, that way they could have me for their section. I tol dher that if I could shoot for any section, I would choose Arts. She said why, and I said "That's my forte, that's where I want to shoot the most"
Anyway, so tonight our photoeditor said I've been here long enough that I could claim a "beat" now if I wanted to. I asked "really?" and he said yes, it's not uncommon. No sooner had the words come out of his mouth and I turned around to our arts editors and told them I wanted to do the art beat. They said "That's fine, but you're pretty much our photographer anyway. You always take our assignments and we always go to you first" and I replied "I know, but now it's official"
SO you are now looking at the official unofficial arts photographer for the Indiana Daily Student.
(And no, no photos, but I'm shooting Umphree's McGee tomorrow night. I didn't know where to post this news, but I figured this was the people section and I'm people, so it worked).

But yeah, I'm excited. I just wonder if my beat status trumps the kid trying to get "senior photographer" status. Although since I am always pulling things off last minute for arts, and he just shoots what he wants when he wants how he wants, and then doesn't work with anyone on anything, I think they'll still go to me.
