Explaining the Apply Image command requires a significant amount of background material that I have written about previously here
Since your question about the Apply Image command was your first question, I don't know if my link is the most appropriate answer, because I do not know your level of understanding re: Photoshop.
Read the link I posted and see if it all makes sense to you. If not, come back here and ask some more questions.
Apply Image is a command that I use routinely in almost every image I edit.... It allows you to control, alter, or edit contrast to optimize your image.
I looked at your images on your Flickr host, You have some very nice work, with a good grasp of B&W conversions. You will do well with the Apply command
I guess you won't be hearing from me for a long time!
Thanks so much.
That is the idea to start with Manda (nothing personal!), but you will likely have questions as you work your way through the concepts and techniques. That is where we can help, you can post an example image and other members can give advice. We all learn and gain something. Every image is different and what works well for one may not work so well on another if the unique characteristics of the new situation are not taken into account.
Enjoy the links, there is a lot of good information on channel blending/mixing out there, one just has to do a lot of digging around to find it!

I'm eagerly reading all your articles and am getting drawn deeper into the world of PS.
I'll go away and do more homework and let you know how I get on.
If any one else has links or books to recommend, pls do add a note.
(I've just got the Dan M books which is why I'm in this pickle).
