I was just browsing online to purchase new flash for my camera, Nikon SB-800 and came to this website:
expresscameras.com

The price for the flash was cheapest i could find, so i placed my order. I received an email 5 min. later to call and confirm the purchase. After 5 min. being on hold, guy answers the phone, confirms my order, blah blah. Then he proceeds to questioning my decission on why would i want to purchase this particular flash, who recomended it and why and so on. I told him that i had read good reviews and that's what i want. Then he proceeds to tell me about another flash which is $40 cheaper and how good it is and all that sale pitch stuff. I politely declined and told him, i'm not interested in this flash and would like to purchase what i originally intended. He insisted for me to go on his website and take a look at that flash he was pitching for. I said i don't need to see it, because i want to buy Nikon, period. Guess what he said?
"Your order is cancelled, because you are rude!!"

WHAT???? I was rude??? Excuse me??? :huh:huh:huh:huh I couldn't believe my ears!! I was in total shock!! So i said, it's ok, i'll find another place to purchase from, where sales people are more polite, and hang up the phone. WTF??? I'm yet experience something moronic like this. :scratch
It kind of ruined my day :pissed

It sounds like you're lucky he didn't take your order.

Bad reviews for this vendor at resellerratings.com - see http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Express_Cameras.

I much prefer dealing with a reputable vendor; most of my purchases have been from B&H Photo. They've been excellent to deal with, quick shipping, no problem with returns (even though you need to get an RMA first), and prices are acceptable.

That was just your typical rip-off camera store. He was pulling the classic "bait and switch" on ya. They give a low price on a good flash which they were never gonna honor. That was to pull you in so they could sell you something else at an inflated price. They are just your basic scum sucking bottom feeders.

In the future save ourself the grief and check out their ratings before you order.

Call your credit card company and see what they say.....he may have told you it was cancelled but he DID NOT give you a confirmation number to that cancelation and yes express is one of several that are all owned by the same "holding group".......and they all pretty much use the same phone service if you will.......I found this out by purusing the ads in POP Photo and some other mags........

Be Careful..............even a camera store that I had done busines with for many years wound up in this group of unsavory scum suckers and the store is no longer in Maine as the name implies.................

I have used B&H for a long time. Very reputable. I also use Adorama, also very reputable. I have learned of a few more places since joining Smugmug. I also still deal with my local camera shop on several things. Other that that I stay away from the dealers who has the deal that "seems to good to be true". They are usually the rip offs. Marina, I know you wanted to jerk the "jerk" thru the phone receiver and pound him. Hopefully you learned a good lesson. And I agree with Art....check you credit card to make sure nothing was charged on it.

Going for the lowest price you can find on the 'net usually doesn't end well, unfortunately.

Best to pay a reasonable price with a reputable dealer.

I went and reported them to BBB, may be it will get investigated.

This is actually embarrassing, as I've never ever got fulled by this type of scam, because i'm not very easily lured. I feel like such a dumb ass :bash

    No . .
You're not a dumass. You mighta been one, however, had you let Mr. Bottom Feeder switch you to some POS flash that you didn't want. No shame in bein' sucked in. The shame is not fleeing when you realize what's goin' on, or letting them sucker you.thumb.gif

I am glad you didn't get taken, but in this world you need to take care of yourself. I realy wish it wasn't that way, but until ya'll elect me king it aint gona change.

The BBB doesn't care, and won't do a thing. The state of NY doesn't care, and wont do anything.

Soo...........we is on our own. :cry

Looks like a near miss. Lucky for you.

Now that you know to check resellerratings first you are armed for future shopping. If you check this page on resellerratings, you will see the lowest rated stores are full of photo gear scammers--and are infamous on these fora.

If you read some of the comments on resellerratings you might revise that thought. :uhoh Seriously, keep a close eye on that account for a while.
