I like your rat image; it almost looks like the rat posed for you. The way the whiskers radiate out to fill the frame adds a lot of interest to the composition and really makes the photo work for me. Good job keeping the rats face in focus. My daughter has several pet rats - you've inspired me to make some "rat portraits" for her (and, of course, the kids are watching Ratatouille as I type this, really!)
Thanks for your comments. This was the picture that turned out the best of the ones I took today. I really like that I was able to keep the eyeballs in focus.
I had a couple of photos where we held the rat facing the camera but I didn't like those pictures much. For this photo I put peanut on a small table a couple of feet from anything she could jump to. I ended up using a stobe and 1/400 sec. I think I should have used a faster shutter speed because her nose constantly moves.
