I'm looking for a cool chair to use in my portraits. seniors and babies mostly. I'm wanting something pretty colorful and sleek lined. for instance something that a senior girl could put her feet up in and just curl up in it kinda. and then you'd just sit the baby down in the chair and try to blur out the chair as much as possible and make the design of the chair pop out (not in the normal way obviously, it'd be bokeh) but you know what I mean - the colors would be a great focus.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these chairs from Anthropologie, but of course, unfortuantely $2000 is too much for a chair that I'll use for portraits...haha. I'm looking for about $300 or so. Do y'all have any ideas?

Suggestion: Try looking through flea markets and used furniture shops until you find something that appeals. Then you can either use it for it's old textured look, or take it to an upolsterer to have it customised?

I haven't gone to garage sales...not really any good ones around here...but I did go to all the local antique stores and even all of the ones that were about an hour away from my home to see if I could find anything. I didn't :( So I was very disappointed. I might keep an eye out though in the paper for good garage sales!

    Thanks!

An idea that I haven't tested would be to go to an upholster's shop and tell them what you are looking for. Look at fabrics for ideas. Someone who is in the business of restoring furniture probably has seen some great chairs. They may have suggestions and they also might have pieces that people have not been happy with and possibly never paid for. Possibly an ad on Craig's List? It might not have to be the most unusual chair in the world if it's covered in the right fabric. Let us know if you find something! :D

One of my favorite places to browse for modern/unique chairs is Home Decorators Collection. Here's a sample of chairs there: http://www.homedecorators.com/Furniture/LIVING_ROOM/Accent_Chairs/ While not quite as colorful as the ones you linked, their stock is constantly changing, so check back.

Also, Overstock.com (they have some really colorful ones available right now): http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Chairs/2737/subcat.html?tid=FURNSP1

    And (don't laugh) Target: http://www.target.com/b/ref=sc_pgb_r_7_0_334310011_2/602-1019405-5720644?ie=UTF8&node=333973011

I got my two new modern armchairs from Target. They look very nice and are extremely comfortable.

    Hope this helps!

You have to keep going back to the antique/thrift stores, things change all the time. If you get something like the Pennysaver, garage sales are advertised in there. Maybe look in craigslist, too. There's lots of options out there.

Home Decorator's is awesome. I was surprised at the quality of the couple of things I've gotten through them so far conisdering the price. Same thing with Target's stuff (check their Mission line--it's actually quite nice)--they are trying to position themselves upmarket from where they were & separate themselves from Wal-Mart/K-Mart so the products are getting nicer.

I'll add to the praise of teh furniture from Target. Although not at all what you're looking for, I got new dining room chairs from Target when they started their after Christmas "Global Bazzar" a couple years ago. They are solidly built and were downright low cost compared to anything else that I saw. I think that they had a few armchairs at the golbal bazzar, they probably have more online. If you don't find anything before the new year and have a Target near you, definately take a lookin early January to see what they have in store.

    Regards,
    James
