Hi y'all - I was fortunate enough to be an assistant photographer at my friend's wedding in Salt Lake City a few weeks back. (I'm in Los Angeles...) I'm friends with the bride and the photographer, so it worked out swell. Anyway, I'd love any critique and criticism you can muster. I'm hoping to get more experience and become a real pro someday. I hope I don't bore you with too many pics, but these are my favorites from the wedding, mostly shot on my Canon 40D with the 70-200 2.8 aboard.

Really nice shots! I'm happy to see people getting such great results with the 40D (of course your lens helped too!). The colors are great, nice that it was a Fall wedding. My favorites are #7 and #8.

you did a great job at capturing their expressions. My favorties are 5 and 9. Most group shots I'm not a big fan of but for some reason yours comes off really well. Probably because it's balanced so well and has many different levels.

Really excellent job! It won't be long and you will be SO ready to go pro. I really was impressed by your group shot as those are REALLY hard to pull off and you did a superb job! clap.gif

Thanks for all the feedback! It really was a beautiful day, and the fall colors made it easy to find good shots. I can't take too much credit for the group shot, it was the main photog that posed 'em, I just snapped away. It definitely works better in B&W, in color that shot is kind of blah. Hopefully I can get a few more assistant gigs in the LA area to beef up my experience.

    Me too!
    I like them, I mean. #9's a hoot.
I do have one nit though. I think they're almost all a bit contrasty. Not a lot, but a bit. Especially for a wedding set. ne_nau.gif

Thanks for the comment Icebear. You're probably right about "too contrasty". I'm still trying to figure out how to process these properly. I always get too carried away in curves...

I find your take on this wedding wonderfully fresh, full of emotion and energy, and I think the processing is quite lovely! You have a bright future ahead of you in this genre if this is your first wedding, wow!!!eek7.gif

Beautiful...they should be please. My only comment is image number 5...having them stand on that concrete thing makes them look like giants. Just my opinion tho...they really are beautiful shots.

I will say that #8 & #9 are my two favorites and for different reasons. I like #8 because of the way you captured the cake and its details, but yet the bride is in the background and still able to be made out.

#9 I like also, because it is not so serious. In many wedding shots, especially older weddings, the pictures always looked very serious. But more recent shots have become more photojournalistic and more fun, after all, aren't weddings celebrations!? Anyhow, that is why I like #9, it shows members of the party having fun and the expressions on their faces are wonderful.

Good job on all the photos!! thumb.gif

For a first time (or second, or third ...) this is very good.

I really like the expression, especially her's, in the first photo.

#4 and #11 really strike a chord with me. Nice detail shots and so much warmth. Like!

#6 - Love her expression. I would loose some of the tilt. IMNHO, a little goes a long way.

#7 - Love the light and shadows here. Love the open expression on her face. Nice capture!

#8 - I like the cake shot - nice and sharp. I would have taken a number of these at different apertures so I could pick the DOF I like best. I think she's just a bit too much OOF.

#9 - Looks like a lot of fun. Would really love to know the story behind this image?

Given the excellent quality of these photos, I would strongly encourage you to continue to offer your services!

I know it's not candid but I scho CTU's sentiments on #5. #9 is great, too. I'm sure I'll like B&W better but I'd love to see those two in color.

    Great job!

Nice set. I love the emotion in that first shot and the way you arrange the group shot.
