This last weekend I was lucky enough to attend the annual Moorpark Civil War reenactment.
Yes, there were no Civil War battles here in SoCal, but this never stopped fine men and women of Moorpark Rotary, Richmond Howitzers, Fort Tejon and all the allied organizations to make this event anything less than memorable and spectacular.
I took over 2,000 shots over the course of two days. Took me well into the morning to process them, but at least I got a top spot on their website (and already made a few sales, too :ivar :-).
Here's a scoop:
1: Flagman
2: In line
3: Confederate soldier
4: Howitzer's blast
5: Firing squad (well, you probably saw that one already:-)
6: Union attacks
7: Shell explosion
8: Confederate line
9: Aftermath
10: Salut
The short selection (~50): http://nik.smugmug.com/gallery/3809437
The complete set (~1,100+): http://nik.smugmug.com/Events/372947
Thanks for visiting!

Especially that Howitzer. What a blast!! Oh, sorry.
Very inpressive work and you certainly deserved to be on the front page. Congrats

Thanks, Mick!
For some reason I couldn't catch a REALLY good blast this year (like last year), but hey, we catch what we can:-).
Fantastic images, spine chilling actually. How do they keep from really hurting someone? It looks very realistic. Great job! MM

They have *very* strict safety measures. Yet even despite them accidents do happen. This year we had two, luckly nothing too serious AFAIK.
Hi there Nikolai, I know how much you enjoy these type of shoots,
looks like you had a very successful time at this event
As much as I like the gunfire flashes, my favourite is the #3rd image.
The Confederate Soldier with the speckled whiskers and aged lined face.
Great Series Nik ... thanks for sharing .... Skippy

:skippy Everyone has the right to be stupid, but some people just abuse the privilege :dgrin
Thanks, Maxine!
Yeah, Sunday was all overcast, ideal for portraits. I managed to get into camp one hour before its official opening and had a few people ops. Check Sunday camp galleries, esp. South, there is plenty more :-)

I love the second shot especially. Got a giggle out of #9. Looks like one of the only remaining upright soldiers is staggering towards his truck!
Great shots! How much fun was that!!! You deserve their web site exposure. I'll bet they are all thrilled with these images...
