Anaheim...where to do a good buy on DSLC?

Hey all,

I'm coming over from Belgium to California in December and will stay for a couple of days in Anaheim. I'd like to buy a DSLC (Probably a Nikon D80) there. However, I've got no idea on where (which stores, which chain) to do the best deals in CA (preferably in Anaheim).

Are there some good deals to do in LAX?

Could you guys give me some hints on where to make a nice buy?

I'd be very grateful to you all if you could help me! :bow

Cheers!

Your best bet would be one of the large electronics chain stores around this area. The ones that come to my mind are Fry's Electronics (www.frys.com), Best Buy (www.bestbuy.com), and Circuit City (www.circuitcity.com). Fry's Electronics is a mega store with all kinds of goodies, but the service is lousy. I like Best Buy and Circuit City since you can order online and go pick up at the store instead of waiting for it to be shipped. If you know someone locally with membership to Costco stores, you can also try Costco (www.costco.com). Costco is another large chain of discount warehouses, but annual membership is required.

Best Buy in Orange - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat12092&type=page&_requestid=9702
Circuit City in Fullerton - http://www.circuitcity.com/rpsm/storeid/3364/rpem/ccd/getStoreDetails.do?zlvl=3
    Fry's Electronics in Anaheim - http://shop3.outpost.com/isp/anaheim.html

The local sales tax in Orange County is 7.75%, so you'll have to add that amount to the purchase price.

I wouldn't waste my time at the airport. Everything there is overpriced. Are you here on holiday to visit Disneyland? I hope this is helpful to you and enjoy your trip.

"Lousy" is a compliment to Fry's service. rolleyes1.gif

I am not aware of anything in Anaheim, but Santa Ana is nearby. In Santa Ana you have Samy's (on Bristol a bit north of South Coast Plaza) and Calumet (just off the 55 by McFadden, in the REI center) fairly close to each other. I know there's a Ritz on Harbor in Costa Mesa and a Ritz or Wolf in the Plaza--though I don't go there.

I also go to Irvine Pro Photo down in Irvine. They don't have a bunch of new stuff on display as they cater to pros, but a good shop.

    Thanks!
    Hey guys!

Thanks for the advise! clap.gif I think I'll be able to find my way now!

@ Cuong: I'll be in Anaheim for a conference, after which I'll stay in California (SF and Lake Tahoe) for a week or so! I'm sure I'll enjoy the visit AND the new camera!

    Cheers!!!

Samy's camera has many stores in Southern California. Their store in Santa Ana is near Anaheim. This is the best and biggest full-service camera store in the area. http://www.samys.com/

Samy's also has lower prices than the other camera stores. They have full-page ads in the Los Angeles Times newspaper every Thursday. (You can buy this newspaper at numerous vending machines on the street.)

    Hope this helps

Calumet is an excellent suggestion. Also try Pro Photo Connection in Irvine, its about a 10/15 minute drive down the 5 from Anahiem http://www.prophotoirvine.com/index.html
