Opteka grip short circuiting Canon 30D

Hey ho!

I just ordered an opteka grip for my 30d (with two batteries). The shipment came quickly and i was eager to try it out, followed the instructions as good as I could, but when it put it on/in my 30D the red lamp flickered 1-2 times and the camera was dead. I thought that it was some kind of problem with the grip itself, so I took it off and put my original canon battery in, but still dead.

Anyone experienced anything like this?

The worst part is that the repair takes 3-5 weeks.. that long without a camra?! :dunno

Everything is plugged in and making a good connection? Grip, memory card,
batteries? Double check the instructions for steps you may have missed.

Have you contacted the mfg for help?

Sounds like you received a faulty grip and now you have a dead camera. You might contact Opteka and complain, but my guess is that it will do no good. I am also guessing that Canon is not going to cover it under warrenty as it was an off brand grip. I wish you the best of luck on this one.
