Spent yesterday messing with shutter speed and macro shots. I'm slowly starting to understand how all the different settings come into play Let me know what you think...

Hi there toofast, focusing is crucial when doing any kind of photograph.
To actually capture something tiny in motion is not easy to do.
Most of your in flight shots are not in focus.
I know how hard it is to get one in flight and in focus at the same time
I have not been successful at in flight capture myself,
some folks on the forum have.
I'm not sure if they pan with the bug in flight or they just anticipate where the bug will be and aim in front of it
Your stills are pretty good, cat looks cute.
The Beetles in image #12 look good too.
Practice Practice Practice is the way to go.
I hope someone who has been successful at Capturing Bugs in Flight
can give you a few tips.
Thanks for sharing .... Skippy

:skippy Everyone has the right to be stupid, but some people just abuse the privilege :dgrin
As skippy says you need to work on focus (assume you were using MF ?) and also composition- try to give bugs more headroom in the direction they are looking to take them off centre.

I am using manual focus as the auto focus tends not to pick up most bugs... Can't wait to get a macro lens!!!
Thanks for the replys and here's the original bug shots if you think they look better than the cropped ones, maybe you can tell me if you see me doing something wrong?
I started to have more success when I started manually pre-focusing the shot and sitting there and waiting there for the bug to enter the frame.
