Randy you take the best sport shoots that I see....I finally got the 70-200 2.8 is...what lens do you use and If I need a longer lens could i use and extender? what setting outside do you use plus what is your set up and tech that you use( what metering mode do you use outside to get whitebalance right( I have a canon 20d)....thanks janis

thx magic
i would not put a tc on the 70-200vr....my experience w/ the 1.4 was not good
i have been shooting a d200 + sigma 120-300 2.8, sometimes w/ a 1.4 TC, with surprising results, that gives me a 170-420 at f4 and i shoot it at f4
i usually use matrix meter, auto wb, shoot in A at f4, iso200....
i used to shoot a 30d and it was a very capable camera.
Consider a sigma 120-300, canon mount, i see them used on fred miranda from time to time...it's a huge heavy lens that requires a monopod but it's image quality is like the 300 2.8 sigma makes (i had one and sold it after i got the 120-300)...
btw, i also shoot w/ a 70-200vr when i want to walk around and then i wait for the action to come to me.

Is matrix meter the same as center weighted on a canon? thanks randy
Randy, how do you think that the tc 2.5 would work on the canon 70-200 IS 2.8? janis
i never heard of a 2.5x TC but anyway I don't like TC-s on zooms...the only zoom i have to be ok is the sigma 120-300 with the sigma 1.4x and frankly i like it better w/o the TC.....TC's do much better on primes and of course 2.8 or more apertures

no it's not..on a Canon it's called Evaluative metering
