Images not showing in placeholder

I am curious as to a little quirk I occasionally get when viewing my galleries. I have a gallery that I just uploaded two days ago. I'm using the image links for my blog but when I go to some of the photos, all I get is a blank placeholder. Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    It happens in different galleries and a no specific time or gallery. For now, this is the link to the gallery that it happened in last night. (Also, just FYI, I posted some of these photos on my blog by using the image tags and the http location of the photo by clicking on properties. Last night, they showed up fine on the blog but today they are just the box with the red x. Didn't know if that was related to the issue I posted here for or not)

    The photos are showing now but weren't earlier. I wonder what would make them show one time and not the next?
