Card photo sizes ?

Hi,
I've made a couple of cards and think that they are great.
There's been a couple where the photo has been deemed to be too small. The photo in question is 3504 x 2332 (8Mp) which leads to the question of minimum pixels for the cards.

Edit: I am also finding that my photos are too big for most of the cards, I can't shrink them enough to fit the photo in.
