Critique Faces of China

Hi!

I would like critique on a gallery of mine “Face of China” … I am an amateur, travel extensively throughout the Asia-Pacific region … and am in dire need of constructive criticism …

Your time and effort in this would be greatly appreciated … this is my “golf game” and strive to improve with every shot … have yet to figure out how to pack a “jet ski” in my carry on, so photography is it for me …

Faces of China is a set of mainly candid shots taken during 2006 Christmas Holiday ...

    Great!
You have some very awesome captures in this set. My favorites are #2 and #10 (The pipe and the lady with the pink scarf?)

First of all, these are miles ahead of anything that I could have produced. The only thing I noticed was that some of the photos were great captures, but the focus wasn't as sharp, but not to where a little editing wouldn't have helped.
If you look at #21 and #22, #21 looks awesome, where #22 the skin tone does not really pop out.

Overall I really enjoyed all of these photos, and you had some great colors.

    Were you using a tripod?

    Hi!

Thanks for the feedback .. informative and I will think a but on my focusing ...

Was not using a tripod, all hand held using my EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS, great lens for the type of photography I enjoy ...

    Thanks again!

    Regards,

While some of these were terrific, there were two issues that bothered me.
The quality of focus and shading varied, I would have culled these more ruthlessly and eliminated anyhting that wasn't absolutley first class. That would have eliminated the second issue.

Secondly, there was a 'sameness' to them. Many of them had little environment beyond the face and so I was looking at just another face without any hint of anything else.
