Thanks. The Canon 300mm 2.8 is a very sharp lens, even with the 1.4TC attached , as was the case with all of these.

Interesting... I've been using a 300 2.8 from school.. (no extender though) I've done mostly night games though, so that could be the reason mine aren't as sharp... Which focusing mode do you use? (2.5-6.?, 6.5-infinity...) ISO? aperture?

    Nate

I was at f/4 the whole time ( best I could get with the TC), in Av mode. I kept the ISO between 100 and 400 mostly depending on the light. I had to change it around quite a bit with half the field in shade and the other half in sun. I tried to keep my shutter speeds above 1/500 to 1/800 to eliminate motion blur and or camera shake. IS was on. AI servo, 6.5m to infinity. Shot short 2-3 frame bursts in Hi speed drive 8fps. Very little EC, maybe 1/3 stop. Hope this helps.

Hey thanks! Always interesting to see the specifics. Night games, bad lights, no flash = terrible...

Night games are certainly the most challenging, especially at some of the poorly lit highschool stadiums. If you can't use a flash, I would crank up the ISO until you get at least a 1/320 shutter speed. Sometimes it's just too dark.
