I visited some friends over the long Thanksgiving weekend and this is the view from the back of the house. Yeah, they suck. One shot, handheld, nothing fancy.
Really beautiful shot Nick.
But, wtf, Mr. "Hey Ann, where's your tripod"
Hehehe . I wasn't expecting to take pictures. I was sitting on the porch drinking my coffee and thought "hey this looks pretty" so I took a picture. My tripod was in the car on the other side of the house, way to far away. I did lean up against a beam for support though. See, I got it stuck in your head didn't I, my plan worked.
Nope, 600 miles south. And worth every mile of the drive. One of these days I'll have to take the back roads to get there. Ever ride the Tail of the Dragon?
That same shot can be duplicated almost to a T from an overlook just east of Newfound Gap and the turn-off to Clingmans Dome.

...and bunches of Canon lenses - I'm equipment rich and dollar poor!

That's huge praise coming from the master of the Smoky's himself. I wish I would have had more time down there but I had a good time with my friends and got some nice pictures. The taller peaks at Cades Cove had snow on them but the light was all wrong so I didn't get any shots. Now I know why you like the area so much.
Nick! Great to hear you had a good holiday, and go to take some stunning landscapes too.
That gives us something to be thankful for on Dgrin! I've never been in that direction except to pass through but I remember the sunrises being so misty and perfect.

Next time you're down this way just let me know and we'll get together. I am always happy to find an excuse to shoot in the Smokies.
