Hi there amscout, is carving really big ??
Is it on the side of a cliff?
It still amazes me how an artist can get an image out of their head,
and onto something.
I wonder how they see the image that we see as the end result,
how do they know when they begin to carve how much stone to remove.
Thanks for sharing amscout .... Skippy

Stone Mountain is a fun place to see if you've never been. A fun hike or skylift ride up the mountain results in spectacular views. Beautiful parks and lakes (and golf courses) to walk around. Not to mention the evening laser show!
I actually proposed at Stone Mountain - so it's a special place for the Mrs. and I.
Who are the three men on the Carving on the mountain?
The Memorial Carving depicts three Confederate heroes of the Civil War: Confederate President Jefferson Davis, General Robert E. Lee and Lt. General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson How big/tall is the mountain? How big is the Carving?
The mountain is 825 feet tall and covers 583 acres. The top of the mountain is 1,683 feet above sea level.
The entire carved surface of the Memorial Carving measures three acres, larger than a football field. The carving of the three men towers 400 feet above the ground, measures 90 by 190 feet, and is recessed 42 feet into the mountain. The deepest point of the carving is at Lee's elbow, which is 12 feet to the mountain's surface.
As far as the mountain goes, the above info is about that. There are tons of attractions, and the Christmas lighting events are amazing.
