These are probably the best, IMHO, shots I've gotten of HS football, this year. Maybe my timing is getting better! Please C&C.
Shooting with D70s ( D300 on order!) and Sigma 70-200 2.8, AP @ 4.5, ISO 400.

My aim, one anyways, is to get portfolio good enough to get a SportShooter membership!

Regards toall

Football is pretty much all I shoot.

First off you have some good action there. The first thing I see is you need to be cropping these better. Cutting out the things that don't matter and centering on the action more. Also not cropping out things like legs if that player is in on the action like the bottom one.

Also if I'm reading this correctly you didn't open up your aperture all the way? If I read that right that would be my #1 suggestion. Not matter what the lighting situation is that is the one setting I keep the same. It really helps blur out all of the stuff in the background that's distracting to the action.

    Football action advice.
Thanks for the advice. I'll work on the cropping. I've heard that one before! I've been resisting using f2.8 because the DOF distance is so quite and perhaps my tracking skills are not good enough yet. So, I've shooting actions at 4.5 - 5.6. I think mostly 4.5 though. I will go to 2.8 or 3.5 for still shots/candids of players, cheerleaders, band etc.
Of course, when the action is on the other side of the field from me the DOF extends into the BG players and fans more so than if on my side of the field.
Perhaps I should just set it wider, practice and take what good ones I get!

Any other suggestions, let me know. Thanks
