Ok, kinda weird question. So, I've finally got my kit together for my trip to Las Vegas & Arizona next spring, which consists of the Canon 30D,
Canon Reb XT, Tokina 100mm 2.8 macro, Sigma 10-20mm 4-5.6, Canon 24-70mm 2.8, Canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS, Canon 1.4 Ext, Polarizer filters for all lens' and Gitzo Mountaineer Tripod & Manfrotto Ball Head.
I've managed to put all this into my backpack along with some other small goodies, but I can't fit the lens hoods into my pack. If I attach them to the lens (not so it makes the lens longer, but so that it is inverted, does that make sense?) there is not enough room in my bag for the lenses. Do I really need them or can I just leave at home? :scratch
Canon 30D & REB XT (thinking of converting to infrared), Sigma 10-20mm, Tammy 17-50mm 2.8, Canon 24-70mm 2.8, 70-200mm 2.8 IS, Tokina 100mm 2.8 Macro, Canon 50mm 1.8, Canon 1.4 ext, and Sigma 4.5 fish eye along with a Bogen by Gitzo Tripod, Manfrotto Ball Head, MacBook PRO, several HOYA filters and a 2GB & 8GB San Disk, 160GB Sanho storage device (really cool btw)......wishing for a Canon 100-400mm. :wink

Well, let's put it like this: do you really need 2 dslr bodies and L lenses to take photos that you couldn't with a pocket-sized point&shoot?
    :D

I'm not being sarcastic, just pointing out that if you're going to the trouble and level of photography that you are, you should appreciate the glare negating help of a properly designed lens hood. Not to mention the extra protection they give your lenses, especially on something like your 24-70 and 70-200.

    Buy a bigger bag. lol3.gif

    Hmmm.....
Excellent point. I'm still new to the photography thing, but I completely understand what you are saying.....that being said, geeesh, my bag is already a back-breaker :lift but I will make it work, even if I have to reposition all the velcro attachments inside, I will make it work.....

It is the purpose of life that each of us strives to become actually what he is potentially. We should be obsessed with stretching towards that goal through the world we inhabit.

If you're worried about carry on for the plane, just put them in another smaller bag and carry them on. It's all good. (Think lady with carry on luggage, and a hat and a purse and...)

As for lugging them around after the plane...a big velcro loop for the outside might suffice, and once you have a body and a lens out, the rest of the hoods fit inside.

    Or get a bigger bag!

I always use (except super wide lenses) old fashioned original Mamiya
heavy rubber folding hoods (from 6x4.5 and 6x7 cameras).
One or two of them is all you need + few generic step-up rings.
My factory Canon or Nikon hoods stays new unpacked in boxes.
