Jelly Fish - Monterey Bay Aquarium

Hi Folks :D ... On my way home from the SmugMug/Dgrin Shoot,
I spent a few days in San Francisco with a fellow Smugmugian.

We did a massive day trip down to Monterey Bay,
and went to the Aquarium.

My goodness me that is one beautiful Aquarium.
I have never been in an Aquarium with huge walls of Jelly Fish
like they have at that Aquarium.

I was totally in awe of the sight we saw, April and I spent ages in there
watching and photographing the Jelly Fish,
and trying to figure out how to deal with that thick Aquarium Glass.

I managed to salvage a few, that glass is so thick, not easy to shoot though.

Enjoy :thumb ........ Skippy :D

WOW!! :oogle This is what you call "salvage?" You have very high standards ! :D

I love jellyfish (when they're safely away from me) and have not yet had a chance to get to Monterey. I love the last two because it looks like they're just glowing pods floating in space.

Very nice, Skippy! I really like the last one with all the tendrils. Did they still have the Great White Shark? We were there in September and it was small, but very impressive.

Did you see the glass jelly fish? Those were equally spectacular.

I don't recall but I think they're going to be cycled out soon (to come back at
a later time). I've had the opportunity to see "behind the scenes" of that
exhibit and boy, let me tell you. How they maintain it is very cool.

    Beautiful shots.
You captured the fluidity of the jellies very nicely.

I visited that aquarium a couple of years ago but I had a bit of a problem there. I would read the signs of what fish were there and then think of sushi... Like "That one is a yellow tail. Mmmmmm, yellow tail." :D

The problem April and I were having was the extreme low light,
the fact that the jelly fish were constantly moving, and the thick Aquarium Glass.

This resulted in a lot of out of focus images.

They were just awesome to watch Schmooo, so graceful in their movement.

Glad you liked them :D .... Skippy :D

Ian, April and I stood and watched those Jelly Fish like forever I tell you rolleyes1.gif
I had no idea there were so many varieties, the shapes the sizes the colours, I even questioned myself if some were even real till I saw them move.

That's one play I would love to re-visit.
Thanks for looking Ian thumb.gif ........ Skippy :D
