How big is too big on SmugMug to be polite?

Howdy-

Well after 12,000+ photos my Canon PowerShot S50 shutter closed for the last time. So I got a new camera, a Canon PowerShot SD950is. Got all of an hour on it so far, taking pictures of Chloe the Newfoundland to get acquainted. The biggest change is the size of the images that come out of it.

So that is my question, I am shooting as large superfine. So that results in a picture that is 4000x3000. I realize that file size wise I can upload a picture that is that resolution, but is it polite? I have learned that stepping down to 80% on the LightRoom JPEG Export seems to not be visible and helps the bandwidth

How many people would actually be able to look at it 1:1? I know I can't. So my question is, what size should I use?

Upload your full size files, and share away. With SmugMug, your viewers will see the largest main image and thumbs that can fill their window. Then, if they click lightbox, we'll make the main image the center of attention, and fill it even more.

Kind of what I figured, but figure never hurts to ask for a second opinion.
