Sub galleries layout

Hello,
Few questions this morning that came up as I progress in bulding my site:ivar :
1. Is there a way to display thumbs for sub galleries in more in one column?
The categories are displayed in 2 columns, but my sub categories in 1 long one.
2. Is there a way to control the order in which the galleries show?

    Take a look at the mini-box hack here. It's a method of getting as many as
    four across. Can be tweaked for less.

    In the upper corner of each box should be a "arrange" clicky. Might have to
    pick sort/arrange by position first.
